A native Texan by birth, Chris spent the early part of his life in Iowa, a state born from agricultural roots and historically harsh winters. Those familiar with the area understand the simple kindness and profound work ethic that have evolved from generations bonding together to fight the weather. Chris approaches architecture with that same sincere desire to serve people and a profound belief that a home is a place of significance and memory. It is his philosophy that a well designed residence should not only enhance a person or family’s quality of life, but should shine as a unique reflection of their story.
It is the context of one’s own history and the site’s unique sense of place that inspire Chris, and as such the process with J. Christopher Architecture is one of informal discovery. A minor in sociology evidences Chris’ passion to make unique explorations into the way the culture of a person or people can and should define a home’s form and function.
After earning his architecture degree from Iowa State University Chris moved back to his southern roots and established himself in Austin, Texas. He has enjoyed an illustrious 20+ year career in residential architecture and has been privileged to work on countless luxury homes. His projects have received several awards and honors but Chris sees a happy client as the greatest reward of all.
Chris is a strong believer and when he is not designing homes he is happy to embrace his role as a son, husband, and father. He often volunteers his time at Gateway Community Church and other organizations and enjoys volleyball, travel, and skiing.
