Direct experiences about working with Chris Davenport, AIA
George & Susanna Kane

"Working with Chris was an amazing experience. Not only is he very opened minded , but his ability to understand who we were and design a ranch house that was a true reflection of our family was outstanding. He came out and toured the entire ranch to get a “feel” for the surroundings. After really getting to know us and the ranch, he met with us to show his initial draft of the ranch house.

My wife and I could not believe how close to the mark he was on the first pass. It was incredible to see his rendition of our vision so accurately reflected. He also threw in some unique ideas to compliment the vision that showed his very strong sense of creativity.

We will never build another home without using Chris and his gifts and talents…."

"Chris is a pleasure to work with. He was creative and able to get our needs covered with a lot of external barriers.

His experience and ability to navigate the whole process was a great asset. I wont hesitate to engage in any other project with him."

"The genius of Chris Davenport is evident when one sees the product of his ideas, talent, and work product that we now proudly call our home.

This renovation project was filled with many negative surprises due to the workmanship of the original home builder. Therefore the relationship we had to have on a continuous basis with Chris was imperative. Major architectural changes were made out of necessity as previous flaws were uncovered.

Chris was always available and always understood the reasoning behind the changes. His work product as to these changes was time efficient which eliminated work stoppage by the contractors.

As for the final results, we couldn’t be more pleased with Chris Davenport and our newly renovated home. My wife and I are both creative people and had concerns about whether or not an architect would truly listen to our ideas or simply try to impose their own design.
Chris always took great care to understand and implement our desires and vision. We brought him sketches, which he welcomed, and he turned them into reality. From the floor plan layout to the fine details of design, we worked as a team.

We particularly love our hand carved cut stone fireplace surround and the iron entry door that we custom designed together. Until you have actually gone through this process, it is impossible to imagine how many decisions about detail a quality home building or renovating project takes. Through all of these decisions, Chris was an integral resource with ideas tailored to our vision. We often marvel at the beauty of this home and reflect fondly upon the process of working through each detail.

Chris is a true artist but his level-headed companionship through the process holds even greater value. At each road block, Chris offered thoughtful, sensible solutions and understood that we were not out to spend money for the sake of spending money. We are incredibly grateful for his expertise and would not hesitate to use him again. It is a fact that we have full faith in his talent and work ethic, but most importantly, we consider this most talented architect, Chris Davenport, a friend."

"The Rivercrest home project began when two families, the Bernhardts and Ackerts, decided to build a vacation home together on Lake Austin. We wanted a beautiful place where we could bring our families and friends and use the lake.

After purchasing the lot near the end of peaceful Rivercrest Drive, we hired Chris Davenport to do the architectural work. We had seen several of the homes he had built in the Austin area and loved their modern design, flow and usability.

Chris was a joy to work with. Besides the alignment on style, he quickly understood that the home would be principally used for entertainment. It had to function both with an intimate group of friends as well as for large events. It had to integrate seamlessly, inside and out, and especially with the lake. We worked with Chris for months along with the builder and interior designer that resulted in a plan that fit our needs and budget.

Despite being involved with every detail, the result was far more than we imagined. The home not only functions to our needs perfectly, but provided more. People immediately feel good when they enter. They see the open spaces, the patio, the pool, and the lake from almost everywhere. You frequently hear a gasp and wow.

The flow for parties is perfect. With numerous places for sitting, dining, and standing, it is an amazing place to entertain. We’ve had several parties and events, many family and friend stays, and many more weekends on the lake. Everyone loves to come.

What was really surprising, though, is how well the home lives. While it wasn’t designed to be a primary residence, it functions as one very well. You wake up in the morning and see the mist over the beautiful lake. You get some coffee just steps away in the master bath and retreat to the serenity of the patio with it. Take your laptop and do some work or just relax. It’s become a hard place to leave."
